All tryouts take place at the South Soccer Centre, located at 6520 Roper Road.
All trialists are assessed a non-refundable $10 tryout facility fee (cash only) to help offset the facility rental costs. The fee is paid once and entitles the trialist to attend as many tryout sessions as desired. Please ensure you bring your child's birth certificate or another peice of ID that proves your child's birth year.

All players MUST have a waiver signed by a parent/guardian if they are under the age of 18. We cannot accept substitute signatures from friends, relatives or siblings. Even if you are days away from turning 18 - you must have a signed waiver at the time of your try-out.

Players are expected to check in minimum of 30 minutes before the start of the first tryout session. At check in, players will receive a coloured, numbered pinnie. The Team Selection Committee will use these numbers as the only method of identifying the players participating in the tryouts.
The following soccer gear is required for all tryouts:

Registration
Registration Form, U14-18
Registration Form, U10 & U12
For all Age Categories (except U10 and U12), teams will be selected to compete in one of two leagues; Division A (Tiers 1 & 2) and Division B (Tier 3). Coaches will contact players shortly after the last tryout time indicating whether or not they have been chosen to play on a SW Sting team.

There are two registration scenarios for players interested in playing indoor soccer in SW Edmonton:

1. If you wish to try out for Sting AND would like to play community soccer if not selected by Sting, then you YOU MUST register at the community registration times, and pay the community soccer fees. Players wishing to try out for a Southwest Sting team should indicate this interest on their community registration form when they register. Please bring your registration receipt to the tryouts. In this way, you are guaranteed to play soccer in the upcoming season.

2. If you wish to try out for Sting and DO NOT have any intention of playing community soccer if not selected by Sting, then you DO NOT need to register with the community leagues. You simply attend the appropriate tryout sessions with the Sting Program.

Players should attend the designated tryout for their Birthyear. You will be advised as to which subsequent tryout sessions to attend. At the first Sting tryout session, you will be required to fill out a Sting-specific registration form.

Tryout Dates and Times:
Dates and times are broken down by birth year and sex of the players. For exact information on Ages of players and Tiers of play please see the section on Ages and Tiers.

Selection Criteria

In order to be considered for placement on a Southwest Sting team, players must attend the preseason tryouts. Attendance of at least one of the tryout sessions is mandatory in order to be considered for placement onto a Sting team.

Tryouts consist of a series of fitness tests (speed and endurance), agility tests, skill drills, and game-like scrimmage situations. Coaches and Evaluators rate each player based on their performance in the drills and the scrimmages. Composition of the assessment criteria will vary from age to age and tier to tier, depending on the specific needs of a team and coach. Returning players (who have been members of a Sting team in a previous seasons) will also be assessed on their demonstrated level of commitment, fitness, attitude, and behaviour.

Out of Zone players
If you do not live in southwest Edmonton, you may still be eligible to play for Sting. There are a limited number of "import" players allowed on select teams, but there are numerous factors that must be considered before an out of zone player is allowed to register with Sting. For more information, please contact the Sting Director.
